10 Facts About Chief Justice Ginsburg
* She was born Joan Ruth Bader in 1933 to Nathan and Celia Bader in Brooklyn.
​
*She missed her high school graduation because her mother died the night before and she grieved with her father.  This was her inspiration for academic excellence and working hard.
​
*She finished first in her class when received her Bachelor's from Cornell.  She attended Harvard Law School and then transferred to Columbia University where she again graduated first in her class with her law degree.
​
*She married her best friend, Martin, a few days after she graduated from Cornell University and they remained married for 56 years until his death in 2010.

* She and her husband, Martin, had two children, Jane and James.
​
*Ruth took care of her husband when he became sick while they were both attending law school.  At the same time, she cared for their infant daughter while attending classes and kept her husband caught up with his schoolwork as well.
​
*When she graduated from Columbia, she continued to advocate for the fair treatment of women and worked with the ACLU’s Women’s Rights Project.
​
*Appointed by President Jimmy Carter to the U.S. Court of Appeals in 1980, she continued to fight for women and the underrepresented through her appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court by President Bill Clinton in 1993.
 
*She is the first female Jewish justice and the second woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.
​
* For eight years, she was named one of Forbes Magazine's 100 Most Powerful Women from 2004 through 2011
​

 BETA Club and National Honor Society are having a food drive and collecting health/hygiene products next week. on March 15th  from 10 am-2 pm and  March 16-17 from 3 pm-6 pm in front of the school.  Nonperishable foods only.  Hygiene products desired are feminine items, toothbrushes, toothpaste, makeup kits, toiletries,  girl toys, etc. Please participate if you can.
